Community Connections

Local elected officials from the Republic of Georgia present a gift to Cincinnati Mayor Charlie Luken

The Community Connections/Business for Russia program (CC/BFR) is a nationwide training initiative for businesspeople, NGO professionals, and government officials from Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Georgia, Kazakhstan, Moldova, Russia and Ukraine. Supported by the US Department of State's Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs, the program has brought over 9,000 participants to the United States for 3-5 week professional programs.

The objective of the program is to enhance the participants' professional skills and to provide practical training, which can be transferred to the individual's professional career at home. Participants live in the homes of a Greater Cincinnati family, exposing them to culture and traditions of the United States. In addition, the program includes planned activities and outings, which further expose the participants to Greater Cincinnati life and culture.

The International Visitors Council of Greater Cincinnati has hosted over 220 participants from Russia and the Republic of Georgia on 21 programs since the program was originally begun at the national level in 1994. IVC is responsible for coordinating the program, arranging professional appointments and training opportunities, and placing the participants with host families. In addition, IVC is also responsible for arranging outings to cultural events and experiences that provide participants with positive examples of our diverse American ways of life.
